New in the app: Walk mode

Today we’re releasing the biggest Camino Ninja update of the year. Its centrepiece is a new Walk mode that guides you along your stage in real time. Beyond that, we’ve reworked how you find a bed and plan your Camino, and added a few things just for fun.

Walk: your stage, live
Start Walk mode from any route or from a stage in your plan. Camino Ninja shows you where to turn, how far you still have to go and when you’ll arrive. You can put your phone in your pocket: tracking continues with the screen locked, and your progress shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

Walk in reverse
Not every pilgrim walks in the same direction. Some walk home from Santiago, others start where everyone else finishes – and on the loop to Fisterra and Muxía, some go clockwise and others counter-clockwise. On the Route tab you can now flip any route and walk it in the opposite direction. Towns, distances, the elevation profile and the map all switch with you. For now this works on the main route; support in the stage planner follows within the next couple of weeks.

Find your bed

• Door to door: Stage maps now show the footpath from the trail to your chosen accommodation. And your daily distances are no longer just measured from town centre to town centre: as soon as you’ve picked where to stay, Camino Ninja gives you the exact distance from doorstep to doorstep.
• Photos: Every accommodation card now has a photo.
• Rankings: Each town shows its most popular places to stay, and every albergue shows where it ranks in its town, on its Camino and worldwide.
