Via TolosanaThe Via Tolosana takes you 786.4 kilometers from Arles through Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Toulouse, and the Béarn region to the Col du Somport (1,632 m)—the highest point on all the routes to Santiago de Compostela—and on to Candanchú, where the ruins of the Hospital of Santa Cristina lie among the grass. Around 1135, the Codex Calixtinus lists it as the first of the four great routes and counts this very hospice among the three pillars of the world: You start at a cemetery and end at the third pillar.Explore this Camino
Voie de GaronneThe Voie de Garonne takes you 129.2 km from the Basilica of Saint-Sernin in Toulouse upstream along the Garonne to Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges at the foot of the Pyrenees—it has been marked as the GR 861 “Via Garona” since 2017. Six UNESCO monuments lie along this short route, and it connects two major Way of St. James routes: the Via Tolosana at the start and the Voie du Piémont at the finish.Explore this Camino
Who stands behind the route
Les Amis des Chemins de Saint-Jacques en Occitanie – ACSJO for short – is the St James association of Toulouse. It is secular, run entirely by volunteers and a member of the Fédération Compostelle-France. In Toulouse the routes cross: the Via Tolosana passes the Basilica of Saint-Sernin, and from here the Voie de Garonne follows the river up to the Pyrenees.
The association publishes the members' magazine “Lou Jacquet”, trains future hospitaleros and holds the monthly “Jeudis Jacquaires”, where former and future pilgrims meet.
The association's routes
- Via Tolosana – section Revel – Toulouse: the Lauragais and the Canal du Midi to the Basilica of Saint-Sernin; the association's three hostels are on this stretch
- Voie de Garonne – the whole route: 129.2 km from Toulouse up the Garonne to Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, where the Voie du Piémont begins
What the association does for pilgrims
The association runs three small pilgrim hostels: in Revel (6 beds, together with the town and the Office de Tourisme), in the lock-keeper's house du Sanglier on the Canal du Midi in Ayguesvives (10 beds) and in Toulouse at the Port de l'Embouchure (7 beds). A night costs €17 with breakfast, check-in from 3 pm, credencial only; from April to October volunteer hospitaleros welcome you (as of October 2026). It's best to call ahead.
In the Basilica of Saint-Sernin the association runs a pilgrim welcome from 1 April to 31 October, daily from 3 to 6 pm: stamp, information, credencial. The credencial costs €5 and is free for members; you can get it in Saint-Sernin, at the Jeudis Jacquaires or online by post (plus €2.50 postage).
